Introduction

In SAP S/4HANA Sales and Distribution (SD) module, efficient customer data management is very important in business operations. The Customer Master Information Record plays an important role in this. Let’s understand the significance of this record and understand how it’s configured within the SAP S/4HANA system.

What is a Customer Master Information Record?

The Customer Master Information Record is a main information center for business’s customers. all the essential information about your customers in one place. This includes contact details, payment terms, delivery preferences, and more. Having this data consolidated and organized ensures easy data flow in your sales processes.

Key Components of Customer Master Info Record:
  • General Data: Basic data like name, address, and contact details.
  •  Company Code Data: This area deals with financial aspects – credit limits, payment terms, and accounting information.
  • Sales Area Data: Pricing conditions, sales organization, and distribution channel
  • Partner Functions: Imagine this as assigning roles within a team. You can
identify who is the main contact, who receives the invoices, who pays and who should be informed about deliveries.
  • Delivery and Shipping Data: This part takes care of where and how goods are delivered. Like setting up directions for your delivery team.
Configuration of Customer Master Info Record:

To configure a CMIR, you will need to use the SAP transaction VD51. The following are the steps involved:

  1. Enter the transaction code VD51.
  2. In the Customer Number field, enter the customer number for which you want to create the CMIR.
  3. In the Material Number field, enter the material number for which you want to create the CMIR.
  4. The system will display the Create Customer-Material Info Record: Overview screen.
  5. In this screen, you can enter the following information:

Plant: The plant where the material will be shipped from.
Shipping Conditions: The shipping conditions that will be used for this customer and material combination.
Invoicing Terms: The invoicing terms that will be used for this customer and material combination.

Other information, such as the customer’s preferred delivery date or the customer’s special requirements.
Every time the system prioritizes CMIR to fetch data like plant details, any conditions, or condition types it goes in the format of most specific to most general.
Eg: when plant details are required the system first checks if the details are maintained in CMIR then it checks customer master and then Material master which you can see in Fig .

That’s why Maintaining CMIR is very important as it makes the job easier and saves time. You can also maintain customer specific materials in CMIR with their dedicated pricing condition.

Conclusion:

In the complex area of SAP S/4HANA SD module, the Customer Master Information Record is a vital directory for organized customer data. Configuring it right is like building a strong foundation for efficient sales processes and customer relationships. Remember, accuracy, consistency, and proper integration are key to harnessing its full potential.
